Our HistoryIn 1992 six people attended a meeting sponsored by Susan Niven, (Division Governor); and Terry Clark . A demonstration Toastmaster meeting was presented by Toastmaster Dr. Irene Evens, (District 21 Governor); Floyd Kinchen, and Geraldine Warnke. Susan Niven of the Morning Side Toastmasters Club of Coquitlam became our mentor and sponsor.
The Club met at the ABC Family Restaurant until March 15, 1993. By April 1993, we reached "Charter Strength" with 20 members. We moved to the Pacific Inn Hotel May 1993. We celebrated our Charter Status on June 15,1993, with the theme "The Early Bird Gets The Word"! In January 1995 we moved back to the ABC Family Restaurant, White Rock.
Presently we meet at Centennial Arena 14600 North Bluff Road (16th Ave.), White Rock, B.C. | Ernie Mayer, Charter MemberWhat Has This Club Accomplished? During our 14 years as a Chartered Club, the Early Edition Toastmasters has sponsored two new Toastmaster clubs. Each of those clubs has grown to chartered strength. As a result, our club earned two distinguished awards that are now displayed upon our club banner.
Many of our club members have participated in the District 21 (all of British Columbia) annual speech and evaluation contests. They have progressed from "club" to "area" to "division" and finally to "district level" earning Awards of Distinction.
Each year Toastmasters International sets out criteria for individual club recognition. Our club has received the prestigious Presidents Distinguished Club Award for the past five years.
What Has Toastmasters Given To My Life? As I reflect upon my experiences as a Chartered Member of the Early Edition Toastmasters Club, I am aware that I have been advantaged in many ways. My journey with Toastmasters began at the age of 61. I have come to understand that learning occurs across one's life span. In essence, my experience with this club over the past 14 years has created opportunities for me to refine and polish my grammatical, listening, and speaking skills. As a result, I have gained the confidence and poise to successfully fulfill my role as Master of a Fraternal Organization. It's an honor and privilege to make connections with like-minded individuals. A positive synergy is established within the group environment that fostered my personal and professional growth. | A President's Distinguished Clubis achieved when a club completes at least 9 of the 10 goals established by Toastmasters International. The goals include educational goals, membership goals, and completion of training and administrative tasks. Early Editionhas been awarded the President's Distinguished Award every year since 2002. |
